Episode 1: my mom's vintage plaid pants

I live at home with my lovely parents. Naturally, I take their things (without permission) and constantly rummage through my mom's closet. This will be a series on wearing my mom's clothes from when she was my age and reworking them for the modern day.

Mom the Fashion Icon

Most of the things I've tried are from the 90s, which means that they've been quite easy to rework for today. The primary lesson for me in all of this has been that I should start purchasing more high quality things and taking better care of my clothes--my mom's things are quite old now but they still feel and look lovely. I have to train myself to get away from our consumer culture and exchange fast fashion and following trends for easy pieces that I love and know that I'll be able to wear for a long time to come.

Outfit details: mom's cashmere cardigan and plaid pants, J. Crew bandana, necklace (from my boyfriend)

Additional outfit details (right): mom's old J. Crew shirt and my new(ish) Franco Sarto shoes

I love plaid pants because they're effortless. Throw on the pants, a cardigan or turtleneck, and sneakers or flats, and you're ready to face the day ahead, looking quite good doing it too ;).

Additional hair and makeup details:

Hair: hot rollers! Last year, my sister gifted me with a model of Conair hot rollers that are very similar to the ones my mom used when she was my age. I put larger-sized rollers in my hair and leave them for around 10-15 minutes, and then comb and straighten out my hair a bit with a hair straightener to achieve the specific waviness I want. This might not be the most efficient way to use these hair rollers, but I'm still learning...

Makeup: I use It foundation to cover any major acne scarring and leave the rest of my face foundation free. I then contour with a darker shade of foundation and blush. For this look, I used a MaxMara blush and lip palette. Under my eyes, I used a lighter shade of concealer.
